Phil Slade

Craft UK specialises in high quality, hand made, wooden crafts, imported from Romania.

Why Romania? – Whilst living in Romania, Phil Slade, the owner of Craft UK was highly impressed by the immense skills that each villager possessed and the outstanding quality crafts that they could create from simple raw materials, such as willow. The importing of these goods is being undertaken by the Slade family who lived in Romania for three years until 2004. They worked with a charity called Heart for Romania and were family to many young people who had formerly spent most of their lives in an orphanage.

The Slade Family

In order to make a difference to the poor standard of living in Romanian villages, he ventured into importing these unique products to the UK. The basket work and craft goods that can be seen on this website are made by the local village people, who live in the Transylvanian region of Romania. All material used in the crafts are made from sustainable raw materials. The Willow and corn that is used for the basket work is grown in their local area.

Craft UK trades on an ethically fair basis - We give a fair price for the goods, paying for them with a percentage on placement of an order, and full payment on completion to the village producers.

The business has being set up with the primary aim to improve and make a difference to the lives of those producing the goods. Your business will also generate finance for on going projects with disadvantaged young people in Romania.
